This is a redesign for a clients bedroom, in the brief I was asked to make the room seem bigger and more sophisticated while using the existing furniture as much as possible and keeping it at low cost for anything extra. I love the challenge of giving a space new life without needing to completely change everything.
Here are photos of the original room layout and decoration with my plan drawing of it.
I feel the dark shade of purple and turquoise come across too strong and darken the room as well as adding to the small clustered atmosphere. this original layout doesn't use the space to its advantages, leaving dead space that can't be used and overcrowding the space that can be accessed. I see my client needs storage space and is currently prioritizing practicality over aesthetics, I strive to give my client both.
Here I have recreated the original bedroom design and layout on a 3D drawing program, to compare to my new design.
Here is my redesign for the room

By taking out most of the exposed shelves in the alcoves it allows the wardrobe and a chest of draws to be tucked away. This opens up a lot more options for the room layout.
I changed the colour pallet to purples and grey with a wallpaper feature wall. Keeping the deep purple allows my client to not need her personal soft furnishings replacing to match a new colour sceme. The grey, black and silver secondary colours however, neutralise the room more than before and creates a maturer look.
The new layout gives more floor space, making it easier to move around the room and look bigger, it creates clear zones of the room for different uses e.g the desk for working, the bed for relaxing, the alcoved wall for fashion and getting ready for the day.
Although the open shelves have been taken out in my design, I've added a large chest of drawers for storage, which would sit in the alcove that was barely used and inefficent so that not useful space was lost. two taller shelves where left up to display things or store items that are used less regularly.
