While researching different papers to potentially use for my business cards and CV, I found paper that has been made entirely without wood pulp. The company Karst are producing stone paper and I plan to use that paper for my brand.

Paper production is damaging to the environment for several reasons including. An obvious negative effect is deforestation, destroying natural habitats; 30 million acres of forests are cut down annually. Even recycled paper (no doubt is better) still needs to have virgin pulp in it, and the rest of the process uses a lot of energy. A lesser known impact of paper production is how much water is needed, 10 liters of water is used to make one A4 sheet of paper. A very high percentage of landfills are full of paper products from those who do not recycle, when paper rots it emits methane and when it's burnt, carbon dioxide is produces, both are not good for our environment.
Karsts website states "It’s possible to make paper without timber and water, without chlorine or acids, without waste, using only a third of the carbon footprint. So we did. Our paper is made of stone. It’s smoother, brighter, and more durable than traditional paper. We don’t compromise. Neither should you."
Stone paper is made with waste stone from mining, condensed to a powder that's formed with a non toxic binding agent. Stone paper is naturally a brrighter white so doesn't need to use harmful bleaches like regular paper, and stone paper is extremely smooth.
I am passionate about making changes towards a more eco friendly future. I want to make my CV and business cards out of stone paper because not only does that leave a far smaller carbon footprint, the paper it's self is slightly waterproof and takes more to tear, meaning my CV and cards will be more durable.
